Temporary amendments to the Unemployment Act

Below is a summary of temporary law amendments affecting unemployment security and their respective validity periods. 

  • The exempt amount applicable to work income for persons receiving income-related allowances is temporarily 500 euro per month until 30 November 2021. Usually the exempt amount is 300 euro per month
  • A commuting and relocation allowance in the case of full-time work can be obtained based on a two-way commuting duration of 2 hours up until 31 March 2021. Usually the required duration of commuting is 3 hours
  • Entrepreneurs can be paid a labour market subsidy from Kela in case their business income has been reduced as a result of the corona pandemic. Labour market subsidy can be paid until 30 September 2021 according to the current amendment. A new extension to this amendment is expected be issued by the Finnish Government, extending the period of labour market subsidy up until 30 November 2021. This extension of the amendment is not yet ratified.
  • TE Offices will partly discontinue their job-seeker interviews. Applicable between March 16 and December 21, 2020.
