Change your insurance level

Change your insurance level by sending a message on your Member Pages. In the subject line of the message , please write Change your insurance level, and tell us from when and to what level you want to change your insurance level.

If you have accidentally chosen a level of insurance that is too high, we can correct it retroactively for up to 12 months.

Work requirement and membership fee reduction
An entrepreneur’s employment condition does not accrue during a period of reduced membership fees.

The months of work requirement you accumulated before the reduction will remain valid as long as they fit into the last 48 months, if the reduction is based on a terminated pension insurance or a pension insurance that is based on an annual income below the minimum of 15 128€.

If your membership fee is waived due to, for example, sickness, maternity allowance, caring for a child under 3 years old or full-time studies, we can also take into account months of work requirement for a period longer than 48 months. The months you have accumulated towards the work requirement in the past will remain valid up to a maximum of 11 years.

If you fall ill

If you fall ill, apply to Kela for sickness allowance. You can apply for a reduced membership fee for periods of sickness of more than one month. Read the instructions above under Apply for a reduced membership fee.

Changes in ownership?

Notify us of any changes in your ownership by sending us a message on your Member Pages.

In certain situations where there is a change in ownership, you may be treated as an employee for unemployment security purposes. For example, if you are a TyEL-insured part-owner or a family member of an entrepreneur, you are an entrepreneur if

  • you own alone or jointly with family members at least 15% or 30% of the company in which you work in a managerial position (director, board member)
  • you own, alone or jointly with family members, at least 50% of the company in which you work without a managerial position (as an employee).

Indirect ownership through another company can also be included in the definition of ownership as an entrepreneur. Indirect ownership through another company is counted if you own, or jointly own with your family, at least 50% of the intermediate company.

Changing your contact details

If your contact details have changed, please send us a message regarding the matter on your Member Pages.

Changing funds when becoming an employee

If you are moving from entrepreneurship to paid employment, you should join an unemployment fund for employees, because as a member of the Entrepreneur Fund you cannot accumulate entitlement to unemployment allowance as an employee.

If you are moving to an employees’ fund, make sure your membership fee is in order with us until the end of your membership. To ensure that your accrued unemployment security can be maintained when you move from one fund to another, there must be no more than one month between memberships.

The entrepreneur’s work requirement accumulated is preserved when you move to an employee’s fund:

The entrepreneur’s work requirement is the last 15-month period as a member of the Entrepreneur Fund during which you have been self-employed and maintained a sufficient level of insurance.

  • If you have accrued the entrepreneur’s work requirement and have received daily allowance from the Entrepreneur Fund, the work requirement remains valid until you meet the work requirement for employees.
  • If you have accrued the entrepreneur’s work requirement and you have not been paid daily allowance because you have been subject to periodisation of sales profit, the work requirement remains valid until you meet the work requirement for employees.
  • If you have met the entrepreneur’s work requirement, but you have not received daily allowance from the Entrepreneur Fund, the work requirement remains in the employee fund as long as it fits within the last 48 months of unemployment.
